Dad vs. boys I: Tic Tac Toe

It presented itself without warning, a sudden calm in the storm just after dinner. Food coma I suppose, or some creative Lego time. No matter, I had quiet time from my boys Theo (age 6) and Duncan (age 3) and I was not going to squander it. I pulled out my iPhone and began playing Backbreaker. It was good, too good and sure enough just as I was about to juke my defender and lunge into the end-zone Duncan grabbed at my arm and the moment was lost. The iPhone's accelerometer was no match for him and Backbreaker is simply not big enough for the two of us to play together. He grabbed it out of my hands. Game over.
What to do? Duncan answered before I could even suggest it. "Ti Tad Toe" he asked? Of course and soon enough we had three games in, passing the iPhone back and forth with ease. Theo showed up by game four and we took turns, civilly, incredibly. There are good, group games that are fun and great for filling up ten minutes here, ten minutes there on the iPhone. Just search "Tic Tac Toe" in iTunes and you'll find a dozen or so to peruse. I'll be reviewing games & apps good for Dads & kids from time to time. -Brian Monnin
